I’ll admit.
I caved.
In this previous article, I stated I wasn’t interested in holding and digital art or NFTs
I changed my mind.
A fellow DeFi Twitter persona @crypto_gav posted this the other day. I respect a lot of the info he shares so I usually take interest and pay attention.
So, I APE’d into it like a gorilla barreling through the jungle.
Note: In the #defi space, to “Ape” into a project is to purchase it without fully understanding the details. i.e. an impulse buy.
For the ChainWave public portfolio , we’ve got Hashmask #7151
It was purchased in the 0.5 ETH price lot.
Yes, I spent ~$650 for a piece of digital art with currently hidden properties.
And I have no regrets.
Here’s the transaction on the blockchain: https://etherscan.io/tx/0xf8c83416bc7a87fff4d94a876d5317fcda623e6dc35013eef82376d07a8127ad
Limited Supply, Unique Pieces of Art
These artful avatars are Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTS) - the standard that describes a form of unique tokens on the blockchain. NFTs can represent or act as a car title, a game character, whatever needs to be unique.
They are unique “objects” that can be created with nearly any characteristic.
And they can also manage their own funds. You can program an NFT to distribute tokens, limit changes to attributes, or even charge for changes.
Basically, you can have a digital object with “programmable money” logic built into it.
This programmable money part is the most important. If you don’t get why, then please subscribe and get in our chat server and I’d love to help you understand exactly the implications of this development.
The most common use case for NFTs right now are these kind of digital art pieces we just purchased, but more use cases are popping up rapidly.
There will be 16,384 total Hashmask NFTs issued at various price tiers, scaling up from 0.1 ETH for the first 3,000 to 100 ETH each for the final 3 units.
As stated earlier, we got our Hashmask in the 0.5ETH tier. If we see sales in the 0.9 ETH lots, then we’ll instantly have some comparable sales to estimate an uptick in value of our NFT purchased at 0.5 ETH
This is what our purchase looks like now:
Here’s a link to the listing: https://www.thehashmasks.com/detail/7151
As you can see, it’s nothing yet. Unknown.
The DROP
On February 11, the Hashmasks project will be ‘releasing’ each token’s actual randomized visual elements to holders. You buy now, then get your final product on the drop.
The element of surprise is strong is strong in this one.
It’s a throwback to the days I was buying dozens of $1 baseball card packs from the village card shop hoping to get that Ken Griffey Jr.
Each item will ad-lib of art populated with components each built by one of 70 artists.
Here’s how those elements are broken down:
Each of these characteristics will be mixed and matched with elements from those 70 different artists.
Horned Horse Hopes
If luck befalls us, we may be issued the rarest of rares:
The soon-to-be-heralded horned horse: The Unicorn Mask.
upon further inspection, you realize that there are only 13 Hashmasks that feature a unicorn mask, which is much more exclusive than the rarest of all pixel mask
It’s possible that on Feb 11, Chainwave’s public portfolio could be in possession of this provably rare piece of art.
I’m going to go out on a limb and estimate that these Unicorn Hashmask NFTs will be trading in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Yea, I know. It’s insane. But who are we to judge what others value?
At least we will have a fun digital avatar or persona that we will use for Chainwave.
Understanding how the NFT space works a little more also has inherent value.
Being able to demonstrate this to the world is also valuable to me and worth the 0.5ETH .
Pretty fun, right?
I just hope we don’t get a dud!
